As part of the agreement for renewal with SC County we are to comply with some of the requirements of SB 1383 immediately. We are required to do routine inspections of your garbage bags. We are to look for violations of recycling and food scrap/organic waste being mixed with garbage. These inspections are to be documented and reported to the county. We ask that you all please continue with the wonderful job you are doing. If there are any issues we will notify you and give you an opportunity to correct the deficiencies. Most of our customers compost at home, however if you don’t, you will need to put food scraps out as organic waste. We are required to inform you, “State law requires Summit customers to separate organic waste, recycling, and trash and place these materials in separate containers for collection.” 14 CCR 18984.5(b)(1)(A)
Recycling is key to a sustainable future. We are very big advocates for the environment and take pride in recycling everything we can. The biggest impact you can make is reducing plastic. It is so important that all items to be recycled need to be clean and sorted appropriately. Otherwise our landfills will be the only option. Santa Cruz County requires every household to recycle. It is the law.

As the world navigates the impact of plastic and the economics to recycle come into play the only real way to reduce what goes into our landfills is to stop using plastics. Our agreement with the county requires us to use the Ben Lomond Landfill for disposal of all garbage and recycling. In July 2019, Grey Bears acquired the contract with the county for recycling services. Please visit their website for the most up to date information regarding what can be recycled.

All garbage must be bagged as it is hand lifted from your garbage can to the dump truck. Please be mindful of how heavy the bags are filled.
All recycling (except cardboard) must be bagged. It is sorted at our sorting facility before it goes to the recycling center for processing.
Key things to remember:
* All garbage and recycling must be bagged, except cardboard
* Please use separate containers or different color bags if using the same can.
* Please make sure all recycling is clean
* Please do not put biohazard waste in garbage
* Please breakdown flat all cardboard
